I’ve heard it so many times that guys keep working out but are not making any significant gains in strength or muscle mass. This can be the result of several factors.
Why You Don't Build Muscles When You Workout

Most people do not realize that what and when you eat something plays an important role in the production of lean muscle building. First, don’t go for any of that carb starve junk that seems to be the fad these days. A well balanced diet of carbs and protein will give you the greatest benefit when it comes to building muscle.
Another important factor for building muscle is when you eat. An hour after you workout is the best time to load up on your carbs and protein. This is because this is the rebuilding stage of your muscles so in that respect, you need to give them food. Without it, it is almost impossible to make any significant gains.
There has also been a lot of discussion on the amount of weight and reps one should do in a weight lifting routine. It has been said that if you want to really bulk up, you should use more weight and do less reps. If you are wanting to get a lean, muscular look, do more reps with a lighter weight. Most people I know are going for the lean look and using lighter weight. It seems to be a more practical way of building muscle and you will be less prone to injuries. I have actually seen some people that were so big that they could hardly move around. You definitely do not want this.
